Using this PPA since you can only get a tar eg jdk-7u3-linux-x64.tar.gz from Sun’s website: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/java sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk This is pretty useful if you do android development.
